INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Darick and Karrie Endecott, Kim Batson, Michelle Brooks-Young and Kathy Creasy served as the training team for the institutes in Cairo and Assiut.  These Institutes were our second and third in Egypt; the first was held in 2007 in conjunction with the national convention.  These institutes provided us an opportunity to connect with more local leaders who were unable to travel to Port Said in 2007.

The first Institute was held at a conference center outside of Cairo.  There were 45 Institute participants representing nine churches from Cairo and surrounding suburbs.  Approximately one-half of these participants had attended the 2007 Institute in Port Said.  There were also several pastors in attendance.  The majority of the participants were young adults from 16 to 30.

At the close of the Institute a children’s day was held at the conference site.  Each local church brought children from their ministries.  There was a total of 275 children, 60 children’s ministers and 15 other guests.  The day concluded with a salvation message and many children came forward to receive Christ.

The second Institute was held at a Catholic church and conference center outside of Assiut in Upper Egypt.  Again 45 participated representing nine churches from throughout Upper Egypt.  Only one person was present who had participated in the 2007 Institute emphasizing the need for training in this region.  There were also several pastors present at this Institute.  Again, this was a young audience with the majority of participants being between the ages of 20 and 30.

A children’s day was also held at the close of this Institute with local churches transporting children to the event.  There were 432 children who participated along with 70 children’s ministers, pastors, and parents.  These 432 children represented only a segment of the total number of children who are ministered to weekly in the Assiut region.   This children’s day was held outdoors in a garden.  When the salvation message was presented more than 100 children as well as several adults came forward and prayed.  It was a blessed time of ministry.

Highlights of both Institutes included times of ministry during the spiritual formation sessions, teaching sessions that involved the participants in assessment and application, and relational ministry to individual participants.  We were amazed at how God provided opportunities for each team member to personally provide counsel and encouragement to individual children’s ministers.

I commend our national overseer, Bishop Samir Shehata Rizk for his commitment to evangelizing children and youth of Egypt and recognizing the necessity of training those who serve them.   I hope to work closely with him to conduct an Institute in Alexandria in the near future.  Our ultimate goal is to develop leaders in Egypt who will continue providing ministry training and leadership development to pastors and children’s ministers throughout the nation.

I also want to thank each member of our training team, Darick and Karrie, Kim and Michelle.  Each served well –training with excellence, influencing through loving relationships, and providing one-on-one ministry when opportunities arose.  They also provided an abundance of resources for the children’s ministers and children.

Respectfully submitted,
